# Agent skills

> The edgeimpulse/agent-skills repository is the public catalog of Edge Impulse Agent Skills for AI coding agents.

Edge Impulse maintains a public catalog of [Agent Skills](https://agentskills.io/home) in the [edgeimpulse/agent-skills](https://github.com/edgeimpulse/agent-skills) repository. A skill is a markdown file that gives an AI coding agent persistent, on-demand knowledge, so it can work with your projects, data, and deployments without you re-explaining the platform in every session.

Skills follow the [Agent Skills specification](https://agentskills.io/specification), so the same file works with any agent that supports it. Only the install path differs between agents.

## What's in the catalog

The catalog covers three broad areas:

* **Platform skills**: working with Edge Impulse itself through the APIs, CLIs, and SDKs. Uploading and relabelling data, training and testing models, exporting deployments, and monitoring jobs.
* **Custom block skills**: authoring [custom blocks](https://docs.edgeimpulse.com/studio/organizations/custom-blocks.md) for your organization. Separate skills cover [learning](https://docs.edgeimpulse.com/studio/organizations/custom-blocks/custom-learning-blocks.md#building-the-block-with-an-ai-agent), [deployment](https://docs.edgeimpulse.com/studio/organizations/custom-blocks/custom-deployment-blocks.md#building-the-block-with-an-ai-agent), [processing](https://docs.edgeimpulse.com/studio/organizations/custom-blocks/custom-processing-blocks.md#building-the-block-with-an-ai-agent), [transformation](https://docs.edgeimpulse.com/studio/organizations/custom-blocks/custom-transformation-blocks.md#building-the-block-with-an-ai-agent), [AI labeling](https://docs.edgeimpulse.com/studio/organizations/custom-blocks/custom-ai-labeling-blocks.md#building-the-block-with-an-ai-agent), and [synthetic data](https://docs.edgeimpulse.com/studio/organizations/custom-blocks/custom-synthetic-data-blocks.md#building-the-block-with-an-ai-agent) blocks. Each one teaches the agent the block contract, the `parameters.json` schema, and the `edge-impulse-blocks` workflow.
* **Build and firmware skills**: turning an exported deployment into working application code for a family of targets. These cover the deployment format to choose, the inference pattern for that platform, and how to build, flash, and run.

Skill names are prefixed with `ei-` so they stay identifiable once installed alongside catalogs from other projects. Skills are grouped by maturity: stable skills aim to preserve backwards compatibility, while experimental ones may change or be removed.

> [!NOTE]
>
> The catalog is updated independently of this documentation. Treat the [repository README](https://github.com/edgeimpulse/agent-skills#readme) as the source of truth for which skills exist and what each one does, rather than any list reproduced elsewhere.

## Install

The recommended way to install and manage skills is the [`skills`](https://www.npmjs.com/package/skills) CLI. It requires [Node.js](https://nodejs.org) and Git, detects which agents you have installed, and copies each skill to the right location.

See what the catalog currently offers without installing anything:

```bash theme={"system"}
npx skills add edgeimpulse/agent-skills --list
```

Install the full catalog:

```bash theme={"system"}
npx skills add edgeimpulse/agent-skills
```

Skills install into the current project by default; add `--global` to make them available everywhere. Use `npx skills list`, `npx skills update <skill-name>`, and `npx skills remove <skill-name>` to manage what you have installed. The repository README documents the full set of flags.

> [!NOTE]
>
> Skills are versioned, and versions are bumped as changes land in the repository. Re-run the install command at any time to pick up the latest revision. To report a bug, open an issue in the [agent-skills repository](https://github.com/edgeimpulse/agent-skills/issues); to propose a new skill or improve an existing one, open a pull request following the repository's [contribution guidelines](https://github.com/edgeimpulse/agent-skills/blob/main/CONTRIBUTING.md).
